Citrus essential oils, such as those derived from orange, mandarin, lime, grapefruit, and bergamot, are among the most recognizable and widely used natural fragrances. Beyond their pleasant scent, numerous studies have shown that inhalation of citrus aromas can influence human mood, anxiety, and physiological parameters such as heart rate and cortisol levels. This presentation explores the chemical composition of citrus oils — dominated by limonene and minor compounds like linalool and citral — and their role in shaping sensory perception. Drawing from aromatherapeutic and neuroscientific research, we discuss how olfactory stimulation affects the limbic system, leading to measurable changes in emotional state and stress response. Practical demonstrations with blotters will allow the audience to experience these aromas directly, highlighting the link between molecular structure, subjective perception, and psychophysiological impact.
