We are proud to announce that Dr. Shirong Huang, Group Leader (Digital Olfaction Group) at the Chair of Materials Science and Nanotechnology, TU Dresden, has been elevated to the grade of IEEE Senior Member. This prestigious honor is bestowed upon IEEE members who have demonstrated significant contributions to the advancement of engineering, science, and technology for the benefit of humanity, and who have shown professional excellence for at least ten years.
Dr. Huang’s research focuses on low-dimensional nanomaterials, intelligent gas sensing, and AI-enabled electronic nose systems for applications in environmental monitoring, disease diagnostics, and industrial process control. His elevation to IEEE Senior Member recognizes not only his technical achievements and leadership in the field but also his active contributions to the international scientific community through publications, editorial service, and professional committee roles. We congratulate Dr. Huang on this significant milestone and look forward to his continued contributions to innovation and collaboration in sensor technology.



Shirong Huang


Dr. Huang has been a group leader in the field of Digital Olfaction Sensors in the chair of Materials Science and Nanotechnology at TU Dresden since 2024. He obtained his doctoral degree in 2022 under the supervision of Prof. Gianaurelio Cuniberti at TU Dresden and continued to work as a postdoctoral researcher afterwards. Prior to joining TU Dresden, his research mainly focused on carbon nanomaterial synthesis and their application as thermal management materials in high power electronic packaging field under the supervision of Prof. Johan Liu at Shanghai University, China, where he got his master degree in 2014.
Dr. Huang serves as the Youth Board Member of journal Applied Research and Brain-X, member of IEEE Sensors Council Young Professional Committee, Young Professional Chair of 2025 IEEE Biosensors Conference, member of the Technical Program Committee (TPC) of both ISOEN 2024 conference and Digital Olfaction Society (DOS) 2024 conference. He is also the guest editor of journals, such as Small, Analysis & Sensing, Advanced Sensor Research, etc. He is reviewer of several peer-reviewed journals, such as Sensors and Actuators B: Chemical,Biosensors and Bioelectronics,Sensors and Actuators: A. Physical, Carbon, Small,IEEE Sensors Letters, IEEE Sensors Journal, Sensors, Advanced Intelligent Systems,Advanced Engineering Materials, Journal of Hazardous Materials, etc. So far, He has published more than 50 scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals and prestigious conference proceedings, such as Applied Physics Reviews, Angewandte Chemie International Edition, ACS applied materials & interfaces, Nano Research, Small, Advanced Intelligent Systems, Carbon, IEEE Sensor journal, etc., and 1 book chapter. He is the board member of Society of Chinese Chemists and Chemical Engineers in Germany (GCCCD).
