Dr. Mattoli is a Senior Researcher Technologist at the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT). He earned his Laurea degree in Chemistry (with honours) from the University of Pisa and a Diploma in Chemistry from the Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa in 2000. In 2005, he received his PhD in Bioengineering (with honours) from Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna. He has held visiting research positions at Stanford University (2004) and Waseda University (2005 and 2008). From June 2008 to October 2009, he served as an Assistant Professor of Bioengineering at Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna. From 2009 he works at the Center for Materials Interfaces of the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia, focusing his research on smart/functional materials, first as Team Leader and then as permanent Researcher Technologist. His work focuses on smart and bio-inspired materials, soft electronics, tattoo electronics, ultra-thin films, sensors, and biorobotics. He is actively involved in multiple research projects, including the EU FET Project 5D NanoPrinting and the EU EIC Challenge Project IV-Lab, for which he serves as coordinator. Dr. Mattoli is the author or co-author of more than 180 peer-reviewed articles in ISI-indexed journals (~11,300 citations; h-index = 58, Scopus), over 50 invited talks, and numerous conference proceedings, communications, and patents.
