Thorsten Arnold studied physics at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg in Germany graduating with a diploma thesis entitled "Density functional study of spin effects and persistent currents in quantum rings" in 2009. He did his Ph.D. at Haskoli Islands with the title "The influence of cavity photons on the transient transport of correlated electrons through a quantum ring with magnetic field and spin-orbit interaction" at the group of Vidar Gudmundsson in Iceland, where he received a scholarship from the Eimskip Fund of The University of Iceland. After receiving his doctorate in 2014, he moved to the group of Frank Ortmann at Technische Universität Dresden, where he does theoretical research on transport in organic semiconductors.
