Dr. Michael Adachi is an Associate Professor in the School of Engineering Science at Simon Fraser University (SFU), where he leads a team developing new gas sensors, biomarker sensors and electronic devices using scalable microelectronic fabrication methods. His research interests include the fabrication and characterization of biomarker sensors, gas sensors, and optoelectronic devices. During his postdoctoral research at the University of Toronto, he developed colloidal quantum dot lasers and solar cells, and during his doctorate at the University of Waterloo he fabricated core-shell silicon nanowire solar cells. He is a recipient of the Michael Smith Health Research BC Scholar Award (2022-2027) and serves as an Associate Editor of ECS Sensors Plus, and is Chair of the IEEE Electron Device Vancouver Chapter.
In September 2026, he is visiting the Chair of Materials Science and Nanotechnology as a Humboldt Research Fellow for Experienced Researchers to develop monolayer MoS2-based sensors for biomedical applications.
