Imad finished in 2003 his B.Sc from the Al-Quds University (East Jerusalem, Palestine) in the field of Electronic Engineering. During the period 2005-2007, he worked in the Nanotechnology Research Laboratory at Al-Quds University under the supervision of Prof. Mukhles Sowwan, where he got his Master of Science. In Al-Quds Imad considered genetically engineered stable proteins 1 (SP1: aboiling-stable ring protein complex, 11 nm in diameter, which self-assembles from 12 identical monomers). SP1 can be utilized to form large ordered arrays; it can be easily modified by genetic engineering to produce various mutants; it is also capable of binding gold nanoparticles (GNPs) and thus forming protein-GNP chains made of alternating SP1s and GNPs. Imad then studied the electrical properties of this new block.
Imad recently joined the group of Prof. Gianaurelio Cuniberti in Dresden as a PhD student. Imad plans to achieve controlled formation of complex nanostructures with the aim of building a memory cell prototype based on nanoparticles connected to electrodes via low dimensional carbon-nanostructures.
